Archives, Copyright, and Intellectual Property

Unlike libraries, archives preserve and hold copies of records, rare books, recordings, and other primary source material not available outside their parent institutions.  Faculty and doctoral students use these materials for original research.  Individuals and organizations donating papers and records to archives will need to understand the legal and ethical implications of donating to archives, affecting the copyright status of such works.
