Fromm their own mission description, "ICPSR maintains a data archive of more than 250,000 files of research in the social and behavioral sciences. It hosts 21 specialized collections of data in education, aging, criminal justice, substance abuse, terrorism, and other fields."

The GSS is the single best source for sociological and attitudinal trend data covering the United States. It allows researchers to examine the structure and functioning of society in general as well as the role played by relevant subgroups and to compare the United States to other nations.

Pew Research Center makes its data available to the public for secondary analysis after a period of time. There is also a helpful guide on how to download the datasets linked to from this page.
