Information about the Welcome Week event for Carlson Library at the University of Toledo

Event Lineup

Club Carlson invites new Rockets to spend the evening exploring the library and discovering its resources and services through fun activities.  Each floor will have one activity that will illustrate a specific feature of the library.  Activities are as follows:

  • The first floor will serve as a welcome area where students will be greeted with treats such as popcorn and an information sheet about the library services, hours, and ways to reach us.
  • The second floor will illustrate its collaborative use through a jam session by library and (possibly) student musicians.  Visitors can relax and enjoy the music or explore the upper floors.
  • The third floor will demonstrate the group study rooms and the catalog through a variation on escape rooms.  Students will answer questions geared towards learning call numbers to break a code that will allow them access to a box wherein keys to the group study room will open the door to goodie bags.
  • The fourth floor will provide a space for competition and learning.  As students travel through the stacks with bean bag in hand to sink into a cornhole board, they will discover the subjects identified by call number in each range through an informative poster.
  • The fifth floor will  reveal the library’s hidden collections: the archives.  As a preview to the Canaday Center’s 2017-2018 exhibit set to open in October, highlights from the university archives, manuscripts collections, and rare books will be made available to see up close and personal.  An information sheet will be available that will include services, hours, contact and examples of how the collections have been used in important research.
