What is web accessibility?

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) promotes a high degree of the web's usability for people with disabilities through its Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) and defines web accessibility as "websites, tools, and technologies...designed and developed so that people with disabilities can use them." It addresses all disabilities that affect access to the Web, including auditory, cognitive, neurological, physical, speech, and visual.

WebAIM - a comprehensive resource for education, training, and assessment of accessible web sites
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) - this page explains international standards for developing accessibility websites.
Usability.gov - this page provides information on user experience as well as accessibility guidelines
W3C WAI provides web accessibility evaluation tools, including an "Easy Checks" list for a preliminary review of a site's accessibility.
