Dissertations and Theses are the formal presentation of research done during a graduate degree. Generally, they are available in print only from the institution where the degree was granted, but more recently many times there is an electronic version (an ETD) uploaded to the Internet and available to read. Sometimes the contents of a dissertation later form the basis for a book, often with additional material added or other editing and modification. As sources for your own research, Dissertations and Theses are often good places to examine a recent bibliography of publications or to see full details of a research methodology.
