Theatre Forms of India

 INDIAN DRAMA:ORIGIN & DEVELOPMENT

Indian theatre

India is a country that celebrates many religious festivals, participates in ritual offerings, fairs and community gatherings that are conducted throughout the year. Traditional theatre forms were the main types of entertainment enjoyed by the public on these occasions. Classical theatre reflected the color and flavor of regional, local and folk cultures. 'It is believed that the theatre elements related to the classical world of Sanskrit drama, moved to neighbouring regions and was assimilated into the local theatre forms. This type of blending was apparent in the literature and included all areas of visual and performing arts'.

Indian Sanskrit drama: Kuttiyattam
