Mulford renovations continue; work is planned to start on Monday, August 9.  If you have been around a while, you may remember the renovations in 2018-2019: new carpeting to replace the old tired carpeting, removal of 50-year old, inaccessible study carrels, addition of new study tables, addition of height-adjustable work surfaces, reconfiguration of group study rooms, and the creation of the collaborative learning spaces on the sixth floor north.

Starting this summer, we're moving into the next major renovation:

  • renovation of the restrooms on the fifth floor
  • creation of new larger study rooms with large whiteboards (student request)
  • creation of spaces with height-adjustable study carrels (student request)
  • replacement of chairs at the study tables and in study rooms (student request)
  • improved soundproofing and lighting in the side study and conference rooms
  • addition of booth seating along the long walls of the fifth floor

That's exciting news, but here is the important info: What we are doing to minimize disruption? Library Director Jolene Miller is working closely with Facilities to minimize disruption as much as possible:

  • Contractors will be working from 5:30 am - 1:30 pm, with the loudest work being done before the library opens at 7:30 am.
  • Loud work will be avoided completely the days before major examinations.
  • Work will be done on one side of the floor at a time and will be coordinated with furniture delivery (to avoid having study space unavailable as little as possible).
  • It is likely that even with all of these precautions, the work will be loud, especially the demolition. There are ear plugs available at the 4th floor service desk if you need them. You may also want to consider finding an alternative study space in the mornings.
