The mission of the American Anthropological Association (AAA) is to advance anthropology as the science that studies humankind in all its aspects, through archaeological, biological, ethnological and linguistic research; and to foster the use of anthropological knowledge in addressing human problems. AN advances this mission by providing members with news of association business; discussions of issues of vital importance to the discipline; and information on publications, professional job opportunities, research funding availability, meetings and more. AN promotes the discipline of anthropology and the interests of anthropologists across all subfields and acts as a forum for anthropologists to communicate with one another.

Since its founding, in 1988, Public Culture has become a premier outlet for research on cultural globalization, cosmopolitanism, transnational politics, the public sphere, and the circulation of new cultural forms. By 2001 incoming editor Elizabeth Povinelli could write, without exaggeration, that the journal’s innovative interpretations of modernity at large had become “the tacit assumptions of most studies of public cultural phenomena."

The Wenner-Gren Foundation has three major goals – to support significant and innovative anthropological research into humanity's biological and cultural origins, development and variation, to foster the creation of an international community of research scholars in anthropology, and to provide leadership at the forefronts of the discipline.

The American Anthropological Association (AAA) is a professional organization of scholars and practitioners in the field of anthropology. With 11,000 members, the Arlington, Virginia based association includes archaeologists, cultural anthropologists, biological (or physical) anthropologists, linguistic anthropologists, linguists, medical anthropologists and applied anthropologists in universities and colleges, research institutions, government agencies, museums, corporations and non-profits throughout the world. The AAA conducts the largest annual meeting of anthropologists and publishes over 20 peer-reviewed scholarly journals, available in print and online through AnthroSource. The AAA was founded in 1902.

The Society for Cultural Anthropology (SCA), a section of the American Anthropological Association, was founded in 1983 to promote innovative, interdisciplinary scholarship in any realm of ethnography. SCA also aims to connect cultural anthropology with scholars in such other disciplines as history, literature, philosophy, and science studies.
