ENGL 2950: Technical Report Writing : Getting a copy of an Article

How to Get a Copy of an Article

If you already have a citation to an article--or at least a journal title, year or volume, and page number--here's how you can get a copy:

1. Check to see if UToledo has an online subscription to the journal.  (The Journal Title is usually the part of the citation that is in italics).

Search Electronic Journals available from UToledo Libraries

2.  If we don't subscribe to the journal electronically, or don't have the years that you need, check to see if we have the journal in print or on microform.  If you are presented with a list of titles, click on the Limit/Sort button then limit by Journal/Serial as the Material Type.

UT Catalog Search

3.  If you are looking at results in a database or search engine, you may see a link that says "Find it @ UToledo" or .  Clicking on the link will bring up a screen that can identify if the article is available electronically or in print at the UToledo Libraries. Find It @ UToledo will provide you with either a direct link to the full text of the article, or a list of other options including a link to the University of Toledo catalog, or ILLiad Interlibrary Loan options.

4.  Some articles come with specialized numeric identifiers such as a Digital Object Identifier (doi) or PMID (PubMed Identifier) rather than a typical citation.  You can enter either of these numbers on our Full Text Finder form near the bottom.

5.If UToledo doesn't have a current online subscription or print copies for the article you need, we will attempt to get a copy for you!  Just use our ILLiad service to let us know which article you need, and we'll find a library that can scan a copy and it'll be delivered to you electronically (typically within 10 days).  This is a FREE service for UToledo students, staff, and faculty.

Looking for articles by topic?

If you don't already have a specific citation or reference to an article, see the 'Finding Articles on a Topic' tab to find out about how to search our databases or other resources.

Have an incomplete citation?

If your citation is missing parts that you need to find the article, please contact a librarian for help.  We can help you complete your citation so that you can find the article or complete an ILLiad request.
