Umbrella Reviews are high-level syntheses and critical summaries of research evidence as presented in systematic reviews. They may also be called 'overviews of reviews', 'reviews of reviews', or 'meta-reviews' (not to be confused with meta analyses).
The goal of an umbrella review is to provide a user-friendly summary of the recommendations and conclusions published in systematic reviews or meta analyses on a topic. They give clinicians, policy makers, and others the ability to quickly understand what multiple evidence syntheses have found and act on that information.
