NURS 8030: Implementation/Practicum DNP Project 3

The information resources on this page serve as supplementary materials for NURS 8030:

  • Manuscript Writing. Tools to help with clear, concise scholarly writing for your DNP manuscript.
  • "Data-based" vs. "Non-Data-Based" Manuscripts. Recognize the difference between a published journal article that is indexed in a research database and a full-length DNP project manuscript. This is helpful information if you plan on publishing your DNP project as a journal article.
  • DNP Project Examples.  Read and explore previous UToledo DNP students' projects for inspiration.

Manuscript Writing

For guidance on various aspects of scholarly writing, please refer to the Writing, Presenting & Publishing tab in the left side menu. Here you will find information on:

"Data-based" vs. "Non-data-based" Manuscripts

"Non-data-based" manuscripts

  • A "non-data-based" manuscript is the entire, full-length written paper of your DNP project as submitted for your degree requirements.

"Data-based" manuscripts

  • A "data-based" manuscript is an article that has been published in a journal that is indexed in a bibliographic research database such as CINAHL or MEDLINE (hence the term "data-based").
  • Because journals adhere to specific word limits (usually 3,000-5,000 words; but this is variable), data-based manuscripts will be a concise length and written in a very precise style and format as required by that journal.
  • If you plan on publishing your project in a journal, you will need to rewrite it and convert it to an article-length format that meets the requirements of the journal you submit to.
