Wiley - Hybrid Open Access Publishing: Wiley OA - Introduction

Topic guide on accessing Wiley resources for research and publishing

Description and Purpose

The University Libraries task force on OA publishing has prepared this guide to assist faculty and student researchers with navigating the information needed to publish their research with Wiley.  Please consult OhioLINK's "Information for Authors" guide for the full details on this deal.  See all OhioLINK OA agreements here.

Please be aware that there is a maximum number of articles (across all OhioLINK institutions) that may be published open access under this OhioLINK deal each calendar year.  When this yearly cohort limit is reached, no-charge article publishing ends for the remainder of that year and authors will no longer see the option to request a waiver at point of manuscript submission.

~ New in 2024 ~

OhioLINK has extended its agreement with Wiley for 2024-2026 and will now include articles published in both their hybrid and fully open access journals. ("Hybrid" describes journals that publish articles that are available both by subscription and through open access. Fully open access journals refer to those that only allow authors to publish articles as open access.)

New in 2022: Wiley / OhioLINK Hybrid OA Deal

OhioLINK has signed onto a deal with Wiley publisher to extend open access publishing benefits to lead authors of eligible institutions for the next two years (March 2022 through December 2023). Funding is limited. More details in this guide.

Information for Authors

What is OhioLINK's Wiley hybrid open access deal?

In addition to OhioLINK member institutions' current access to all Wiley journal titles, OhioLINK has negotiated an upgraded agreement with Wiley that offers open access publishing benefits for authors at no cost.

Starting in March 2022, students, faculty, and staff at most OhioLINK member institutions now have the ability to publish open access (OA) journal articles in 1,300 hybrid journals published by Wiley* at no additional cost to either the author or the institution.

[From 2024]: Fully open access journals are now also eligible for the OA publishing benefits under this deal.  [For details and to confirm eligibility of any particular OA journal title, please READ MORE]

Eligible article types

Original research and review articles are eligible for open access publishing in any of Wiley's 1,300+ hybrid open access journals* under this deal.  2024 UPDATE:  articles published in Wiley's fully gold open access journals are now also eligible. Consult Wiley's fully OA list (600+ titles* currently) to confirm eligibility of a particular journal title.

Eligible authors and institutions

In order to be eligible to publish open access at no cost in a Wiley hybrid journal under this deal, the corresponding author of the article must be affiliated with an institution that subscribes to OhioLINK’s Electronic Journal Center (EJC), a full text searchable database of electronic journal articles from top scholarly publishers. Wiley's institutional funding tool allows authors to determine if they are eligible for open access funding through an institutional deal with Wiley.  [READ MORE]
