CI4300: Children's Literature: Home

The Noyce Foundation's Every Child a Reader and Writer Initiative (ECRW) seeks to improve literacy achievement for students in K-5 utilizing the key strategies of system-wide professional development, classroom coaching and assessment of student work. ECRW began in 2000 and focuses primarily on the teaching of writing through a writing workshop approach.

Staying true to the vision of Fred Rogers, and emulating the guiding principles of his life’s work, the mission of the Fred Rogers Center is to advance the fields of early learning and children’s media by acting as a catalyst for communication, collaboration, and creative change. This site has been developed with the intention of using the power of today’s Web based networking to develop the Fred Rogers Center community in much the same way Fred himself used “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” and the cutting-edge technology of his day - television - to build relationships with children and families.

The Center programs address the literacies that all young students need to succeed in the 21st century, including reading, writing, science and math, and mastery of communications technologies. We are particularly interested in how children – especially those who are struggling – learn across both formal and informal environments, whether they are interacting with media on their own or together with teachers, family members or their peers.
