The environment at the Mulford Health Science Library is very different from many other academic libraries, due to a combination of our architecture and the nature of the academic programs that we support (too much material to learn in too little time). We've outlined our behavioral expectations, so that you aren't caught off-guard when a library employee asks you to not talk at the tables on the fifth floor. These guidelines are only for the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of the Mulford Library Building. Other parts of the building and the annex may have other expectations.
Thanks for helping maintain our quiet, professional study atmosphere. Your classmates and future colleagues thank you!
Demonstrate respect for other library users and library faculty and staff by:
Avoiding talking on the main part of the 5th floor.
Having very quiet conversations on the 4th floor, in group study rooms, collaborative learning spaces, and the cell phone zone. (None of the library rooms or spaces are soundproof.)
Taking social and other conversations to the lounges in the basement.
Following requests from library and other university employees.
Keep phones and other devices in silent mode. Use headphones or earbuds when listening to media. Headphones available for check out at the circ desk on the 4th floor.
We can’t guarantee 100% silence in the library. Consider wearing headphones or using earplugs. We have safety earmuffs and disposable earplugs at the circ desk.
Report concerns using TellMulford (noise, facilities, security, etc.) so that our staff can address the situation. If you have a conflict with another library user, let a library employee know so they can address the situation.
Enjoy your food and beverages; please clean up after you're done. If you order delivery, meet your driver on the 1st floor.
Don't leave personal items unattended; the library is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Groups have priority use of group study rooms, so individuals may be asked to give up the room to a group, unless the room has been officially reserved for an online interview. Check the room schedule before opening the door.
Be out of the library by closing time. After-hours study space is available in the treehouse on the 3nd floor of the annex and the lounges on the 1st floor and basement.
Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Service animals are welcome in the Mulford Library. Emotional support animals and pets are not permitted in the library. Therapy dog visits are scheduled by the library.
All library users must adhere to all University policies, including the Student Code of Conduct.
If you are found to be in violation of the behavioral expectations by disrespecting the facilities, other library users, or library employees, you may be asked to leave the library floors of the Mulford Library Building.
If you have concerns about library procedures or how an issue has been handled, please contact Jolene Miller, Director of the Mulford Health Science Library, 419-383-4959 or jolene.miller@utoledo.edu.
